Paul leads the Regulatory, Nutrition and Product Safety teams at Upfield, the global leader in plant-based foods. He has 30 years’ experience in industry, helping consumers trust that their food is safe, wholesome and nutritious. He is a passionate advocate for science-based policy and standards development that consumers understand and appreciate. He is chairman of the ISO (international standards) working group on plant-based foods where he is leading development of the first international, public standard to clarify what plant-based foods are. He recently contributed to an industry organized symposium at the 2023 FENS European Nutrition Conference, titled “Plant based Foods fulfilling the needs of the many, not the few” which discussed the need, and challenges in making plant-based foods more widely available. Paul is a fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (London) and is based in Wageningen, The Netherlands.
